In September 2011 one of the largest mechanical dewatering installations for maintenance dredge spoil was taken into operation in the port of Antwerp. The project, called AMORAS, safeguards the future and the further expansion of the port by controled deposit of dewatered, and thus strongly reduced in volume, dredge spoil as filter cakes. The produced filtrate water  is treated in a comprehensive automated biological waste water treatment plant. The treated water is reused within the different subprocesses as much as possible.
